Tell us about your experience of finding Elika in Love and "the one”?
“I had seen the dress online about a month before I went in for a bunch of wedding dress try-ons. Each time I tried on a dress in a different store I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. Elika in Love was the last place we visited during our 2 days in Vancouver and I was pretty sure I was going to find “the” dress there. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was indeed the one!”
What is it you loved about your Elika gown?
“I honestly love EVERYTHING about this dress! It fits me like a glove and I feel like a forest fairy in it! The lace is just incredible, and the style is truly unique - I’ve never seen another dress like it. I wish I could wear it every day!”
An Elika woman is to you…
“Someone who wants to look and feel gorgeous on their wedding day while wearing a dress that’s out of the ordinary.”
Why did you choose the brand?
“Working was Hrissa was the best experience! Visits to the studio were always relaxed and she made trying my dress on fun! It was amazing to be apart of the process - we changed quite a few little details throughout my fittings. Also working with a local designer was really special to me. I knew the story of all the parts of my dress which I love!”
What was your favourite part of working with the designer?
“Helping to making my dress my own! Hrissa listened so carefully to my feedback and created a dress that I felt comfortable and beautiful in. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect dress.”
Describe your wedding day look…
“Boho fairy goddess.”
How did you meet your partner?
“On Tinder.”
When did you know they were the one?
“I feel like there is no one moment, but instead a whole series of little signs. Like how he introduced me to my (now) favourite brewery on our first date or how he always makes me feel safe and loved.”
Who proposed and how?
“He proposed on a canoe ride on Moraine Lake. It was super romantic and hilarious (he almost tipped the canoe while trying to get down on one knee), which is very much our style!”
What was the most important part of the wedding day to you?
“Having our family and friends with us, eating our favourite foods/drinking our favourite beers and feeling like a queen! Oh and having LOTS of flowers.”
The most unexpected/funniest moment on the day was…
“Calvin’s cousin has a gorgeous white 1960s car, which he was driving my bridesmaids & I to the venue in. When he got to the hotel to pick us up the photographer wanted to take some photos of me and the girls. When he tried to start the car again, the engine was dead! He gave it a solid effort to start it again, but we ended up having to go in my RAV-4. Luckily I had 4 bridesmaids and we fit in perfectly. We drove down the country roads blasting “Old Town Road” and it really got us ready for the ceremony!”
What was the most stressful part to planning?
“I am a teacher so having a summer wedding was kind of a given. However, when I started thinking about what I wanted our wedding to look like I realized that everything was more fall themed (jewel tones, darker colours). Luckily we had amazing vendors who helped create the look we wanted without making things look out of place in a midsummer wedding.”
Any top beauty/mental health/fitness or wedding preparation advice that you can share…
“Just keep doing you! If you are into working out 5 times a week, keep doing that, if you aren’t don’t feel pressured to change. There’s a lot of stigma about what a ‘perfect’ bride is supposed to look like, but everyone’s body is different and beautiful. Your dress should make you feel perfect just as you are!”
Any last advice or words of wisdom that you can share?
“Enjoy the day as much as you can because it’s the best experience and it may only happen once!”
